Getting There South Lanarkshire is excellently situated in the centre of Scotland, extending from within a mile of Glasgow City Centre to close to the Scottish Border, with two of Scotland’s main motorways, the M8 and the M74, converging in the north east of the area. Hamilton lies adjacent to the M74 motorway, connecting directly to the north of England. Road: The main road routes around Hamilton are the M74 motorway running north – south that lies to the east of the town, the A725 lying to the north running east - west to connect with East Kilbride, and the A723 running at right angles to the M74, linking Hamilton to Motherwell and up to join the M8. The City of Glasgow can be reached by car in approximately 20 minutes and Edinburgh in about 50 minutes. Carlisle can be reached in about 1 hour 40 minutes. Rail: Hamilton has two railway stations, Hamilton West and Hamilton Central, both with services operated by Scotrail, connecting Hamilton to the main rail network. Journey times to Glasgow Central station are approximately 30 minutes, with trains every half an hour. The Eurofreight Terminal just a few miles away at Mossend is an additional communications advantage, providing a direct connection to the Channel Tunnel for Scottish exporters. Air: Hamilton is located within easy reach of three airports: Edinburgh International Airport is approximately 50 minutes drive away, and is developing into a significant business travel hub, servicing 30 airlines to 80 European destinations. Glasgow International Airport is approximately 45 minutes away. It has a slightly greater emphasis on holiday and leisure travel than Edinburgh Airport servicing over 40 airlines to 80 worldwide destinations. Prestwick International Airport can be reached within about 45 minutes. This rapidly growing airport offers direct flights to over 25 different destinations. Sea: Ferry access to Ireland is available via Stranraer on Scotland’s west coast, which is within about 1 hr 30 minutes drive. Alternatively, the new ferry terminal at Rosyth is just over an hour away, providing services directly to Zeebrugge in Belgium.
